A Fast, Fully Waterproof Installation System With ALU-CLICK® Joints

Key takeaways

5 min read

Key point 1

The ALU-CLICK® system replaces silicone or sealant joints with bituminous sealed joints built into a grooved plate screwed to the wall.

Key point 2

The profile is 12/10 mm powder-coated aluminum with 25 microns of polyester lacquer on both sides, made to measure from 70 mm to 600 mm wide and supplied in 3 m lengths.

Key point 3

Installation is completed in four steps: align the plates, screw them to the wall, snap the profile in with a rotating motion until it 'clicks,' and respect a 4 mm gap in summer or 8 mm in winter between pieces.

Key point 4

By eliminating sealants, the main maintenance item of traditional wall caps disappears: joints don't crack, don't need periodic re-sealing, and the seal lasts the coating's entire service life.

Key point 5

The system includes coordinated accessories — 90° miters, end caps, and T-pieces — that resolve corners, ends, and junctions with no on-site improvisation.

The top of a wall is one of the facade's most exposed points and, according to CTE DB-HS 1, one of the first that needs protecting against moisture. Traditional wall caps resolve this protection with silicone or sealant in the joints, which creates a well-known problem: the sealant cracks under thermal cycles and rain, and after a few years water gets back in through the top joint. Industrias Mas's ALU-CLICK® system eliminates this weak point by replacing the sealant with a bituminous sealed joint built into the fixing plate.

Section 02

What Is the ALU-CLICK® System?

ALU-CLICK® is a powder-coated aluminum wall cap system in which the seal is delegated to a grooved plate with an integrated bituminous joint that screws onto the top of the wall. The aluminum profile is placed on top and rotated from outside to inside until it mechanically snaps onto the plate, with the characteristic 'click' that gives the system its name. The result is a waterproof coping with no on-site silicone, no visible screws from the outside, and no joints requiring maintenance.

Section 03

System Components

The complete system consists of five pieces designed to handle any wall geometry: 1) Powder-coated aluminum profile, supplied in standard 3-meter lengths cut to the project's length. 2) ALU-CLICK® plate, grooved with an integrated bituminous joint, which screws to the wall and seals by contact. 3) Exterior/interior 90° miter piece, a special piece that resolves right-angle corners with no on-site cutting. 4) End cap, which finishes the wall's open end and completes the seal. 5) T-piece wall cap, for perpendicular wall junctions, common on roof parapets and boundary walls.

Section 04

How the Bituminous Sealed Joint Works

The ALU-CLICK® plate has a built-in bituminous strip that acts as a compression seal. As the plate is screwed to the wall, the seal compresses against the substrate and seals the contact. As the top profile snaps onto the plate, a second zone of the seal closes the profile-to-plate contact. Bitumen is an elastic, adhesive material that doesn't crack over time, isn't sensitive to UV radiation (it stays hidden under the profile), and keeps the elasticity needed to accommodate the aluminum's expansion without losing its seal. Compared to a silicone joint exposed to the sun, the difference in durability is considerable.

Technical Specifications

The ALU-CLICK® profile is powder-coated aluminum 12/10 mm thick, coated with 25 microns of polyester lacquer on both sides (coating both sides is what ensures corrosion resistance on the interior face too, hidden against the wall). It's manufactured to measure from 70 mm to 600 mm wide, with a 25 mm lateral overhang on each side and a 45 mm vertical drop per side. The inner plate is 70 mm wide. The profile's standard length is 3 meters. Manufacturing is carried out under the ISO 9001:2015 quality system.

Installation Steps

Assembly is completed in four well-defined steps: 1) Align the ALU-CLICK® plates on top of the wall, following the facade line. 2) Fix each plate to the wall with screws suited to the type of substrate (concrete, brick masonry, etc.). 3) Fit the aluminum profile, rotating it from outside to inside until you hear the 'click' confirming it's correctly seated on the plate. 4) Respect the expansion gap between consecutive pieces: 4 mm in summer or 8 mm in winter. This gap is essential so the aluminum can expand and contract without deforming the joint. No silicone or sealant is applied at any step. The ALU-CLICK® installation video on YouTube shows the full on-site process.

Advantages Over Conventional Systems

Compared to a traditional wall cap screwed and sealed with silicone, the ALU-CLICK® system brings three verifiable advantages. The first is on-site speed: no waiting for sealant to cure or preparing sealant beads. The second is the aesthetic quality of the finish: no screws visible from the street, no silicone bead cracking over the years, a continuous coping line. The third — and probably the most important for the end client — is eliminating joint maintenance: silicone-sealed wall caps require periodic inspection and re-sealing, especially in climates with large temperature swings; with ALU-CLICK® that line item disappears from the building's maintenance plan.

Section 08

Typical Applications

The system covers practically any exposed facade coping: flat or accessible roof parapets in multi-family buildings, terrace parapets in single-family homes, perimeter wall coping in industrial buildings and logistics centers, low boundary-wall coping in developments and interior courtyards, roof-to-parapet junctions in commercial and office buildings. Industrias Mas has manufactured the ALU-CLICK® wall cap in Tàrrega since 1968 and prepares made-to-measure quotes within 24 business hours based on the project's dimensions.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the ALU-CLICK® joint system?+

ALU-CLICK® is a powder-coated aluminum wall cap system in which the seal is achieved via a grooved plate with an integrated bituminous joint that screws to the wall. The top profile snaps mechanically onto that plate until it 'clicks,' completely eliminating the use of silicone or sealant during installation.

Do I need to use silicone or sealant with ALU-CLICK®?+

No. The bituminous joint on the ALU-CLICK® plate seals the contact between the plate and the wall, and between the plate and the profile. No silicone is applied at any point in the assembly, which eliminates the main maintenance item of traditional wall caps.

What wall widths is the ALU-CLICK® wall cap available for?+

The system is manufactured to measure from 70 mm to 600 mm wide. The profile adds 25 mm of lateral overhang on each side and a 45 mm vertical drop per side, dimensions that keep water away from the wall face.

What are the system's components?+

The complete system includes five elements: the 3-meter standard-length powder-coated aluminum profile, the grooved ALU-CLICK® plate with bituminous joint, 90° exterior and interior miter pieces for corners, end caps for the ends, and T-pieces for perpendicular wall junctions.

How much of a gap should be left between pieces?+

Leave a 4 mm gap in summer and 8 mm in winter between consecutive pieces. This clearance lets the aluminum expand with heat and contract with cold with no deformation to the profile or compromise to the sealed joint.

What advantages does it have over a conventional screwed wall cap?+

Compared to a wall cap screwed and sealed with silicone, ALU-CLICK® eliminates fixings visible from the outside, removes periodic joint re-sealing, speeds up on-site assembly, and keeps its seal for the coating's entire service life. This reduces initial labor and long-term maintenance costs.
